Location:

  The Stables Gallery
133 Paseo del Pueblo Norte #D
Taos, NM 87571

OCTOBER 19th, 2018

A fine selection of works by the early modern artist of Taos, the Taos Moderns,
some of whom created the original Stables Gallery, as an artist cooperative for the
newly created Taos Artist Association in the mid 50s. The Stables Gallery, an
actual converted stable, was a bastion and important showcase for modern art in Taos, and
had a lasting influence on the art market in here for almost 30 years, finally closing
in 1980.  Pressed into existence by artists, Emil Bisttram, Cliff and Barbara
Harmon, Ted Egri and others, these artists and the works of many
Moderns will return to the Stables this summer for a major three day exhibition.

This Stables Gallery Pop-Up exhibition will be a fund raiser for the TCA, to set aside funds to remodel
the Stables Gallery.  A portion of our sales will go into a special account set aside for that purpose.  In addition,
Saturday Oct. 20th, at 2 pm, there will be a series of oral histories provided by Cliff & Barbara Harmon,
David Witt (author of Modernists in Taos), and others to be announced.

Exhibition:
Preview, October 19th, Friday 12 am to 5 pm.
Opening Reception: Friday, October 19th, 5 pm to 8 pm

Exhibition is up for three days only:
Friday, October 19th, from 12 am to 8 pm
Saturday, October 20th, from 11 am to 6 pm.

Painters Painting
Tom Dixon & Peter Parks

A two person exhibition.  Best friends and two of the finest abstract artists in Taos, both Dixon and Parks share the same passion for creating their work. Living for the creation of art without intention or forethought, art that means something, that which evokes an emotion, a thought or reference to the human condition. Art with a quality that is recognizable.  Both with similar stories of tirelessly struggling with the resolution of their paintings and finding the strength to continue, knowing they may never realize the true meaning or the intrinsic value of  what they create.
They are both true painters painting.

 Rhythm & Shape
Courtney Azzara & Ron Lopez

Rhythm & Shape, a two person exhibition of distinctive paintings and sculpture. Courtney Azzara, an LA based artist, creates her art with canvas, paint and thread. Excited by the way stitching is an unconventional entryway into the act of painting, this gives her work its own breath and unique rhythm. Ron Lopez, a long time Taos artist, creates three dimensional objects from steel and wood, as well as paintings. His work is a raw and brilliant birth of abstract forms and reflect the dynamic juxtaposition of lines and shape.

Opening Reception: July 1st  1 pm to 4 pm

Exhibition Dates: July 1st - July 23rd, 2018

203 Fine Art is pleased to announce an exhibition of works from the estate of Adene de La No (1914 1987). Born in France and educated at the Beaux Arts in Lille and the Grande Chau-miere in Paris, de La No emigrated to the United States in 1956. She studied at the Art Students League, as well as with the well-known Abstract Expressionist Hans Hoffmann for two years, moving to Taos in 1961 for a residency at the Wurlitzer Foundation.

She was a strong and welcome addition to the Taos Moderns, and good friends with Agnes Martin. Adene
would remain in Taos until the end of her life, becoming an active member of the Taos art colony and one of Taos's most respected artist. The last time her work was exhibited on this scale, with over 25 works represented in oil, watercolor, drawings and prints, was at her memorial 30 year retrospective at the Harwood Museum of Art in 1988. Highly influenced by the Abstract Expressionist movement in New York, she painted non-figurative and landscape work, with her later works being mostly of color fields.

Opening Reception: May 19, Saturday, 4 8 PM

Exhibition Dates: May 19 June 24th, 2018

For more information and images of her work, please contact the gallery.
