There is something extraordinary happening at 203 Fine Art and Gallery 215, and it has less to do with walls and exhibitions than it does with the people behind them. Executive Director and curator Maureen Sarro arrived in Taos after more than three decades in New York’s art world. Artist Robbi Firestone, whose work is currently on view at both galleries, has chosen not to show her work through galleries elsewhere. Except here.
Together, they represent two very different ways of being in the art world. Sarro brings a lifetime of scholarship, collecting, curating and working with artists, estates, museums and collectors. Firestone brings something harder (yet softer) to categorize: a practice rooted in observation, contemplation and the willingness to put something deeply personal on the wall and let it speak for itself.
