The sculptural forms depicted in Ken Price’s acrylic and ink drawings often recall sculptures that the artist created, however many of his drawings also include imaginative forms that are not directly connected to physical sculptures. Price did create preparatory sketches for many of his sculptural works, but these differ from the drawings that incorporate sculptural forms into the landscape and other surroundings.
Overall, the drawings and sculptures are closely connected bodies of work that engage one another and reflect Price’s extraordinary visual practice. As Price famously said, “I think sculptors learn to draw so that they can see what they’ve been visualizing.
